Status of the Nation’s Water Infrastructure

RCAP Rural Matters: In 2009, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), which regularly evaluates infrastructure in each industry, graded the country’s water and wastewater infrastructure with a D-minus. ASCE has since indicated that it is aging, overburdened, and that current investment is not keeping up with the need.  If a modest increase in investment in water infrastructure is not made, the US could suffer more than $700 billion in economic losses by 2020 and ten times that amount by 2040.
